Show Highlights 2012

  • Meru - Booth #208

Medical Engineering Resource Unit (MERU) will use the exhibition to create awareness of its TravelChair product. The TravelChair has been designed specifically to make air travel easier for disabled children. It fits into a standard airline seat so parents can sit with their children during the flight. It is suitable for children from 3 – 11 years (depending on their size) and gives firm, postural support for disabled children. The adjustable headrest, footrest and body harness provide various levels of postural support which can allow even severely disabled children the option to fly. The TravelChair is made from strong, durable and lightweight materials, is quick to install, fits into the overhead bin when not in use, utilises the aircraft seatbelt as part of the design and has been developed with the parents of disabled children, airlines and the UK Civil Aviation Authority to ensure everyone’s needs are met. In May this year the European Aviations Safety Authority (EASA) approved the product for airlines and will be available for purchase in September this year. MERU is currently working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to gain certification in the American market.

    Altitude Aerospace - Booth #731

Altitude Aerospace Interiors specialises in helping airlines differentiate through the aircraft interior by translating conceptual design into physical products.  The company will use Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas as a platform to demonstrate its increased focus on galley innovations.  Altitude is investing heavily in galley technologies to position themselves as vendors of an entire suite of monuments throughout the cabin.  Altitude aims to provide airlines with flexibility in their galley configurations to meet the needs of all the galley’s users.

    STG Aerospace - Booth #529

STG Aerospace will use Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas to promote its new long-life WhiteHawk replacement LED lighting system.  The system offers the first ever ‘swap-out/swap-in’ solution to replace fluorescent tubes with LED lamps.  WhiteHawk requires no modification to the existing ballast units or lamp holders, so the cost of installing an LED system is reduced.  For the airline additional advantages include lower power consumption and increased reliability and for the passenger and crew a better quality and consistency of light.

STG Aerospace recently announced the successful completion of the first five aircraft installations of is new WhiteHawk LED lighting system as part of a major order from Swiss International Airlines.

Fastening technology for components in off center applications

Ensure easy, accurate and fast attachment of components in off center applications with the new addition to the RIV-FLOAT® family; RIV-FLOAT®-SHORT. These rivet nuts were developed for use in applications such as replacing riveted nut plates in aircraft interiors.

RIV-FLOAT®-SHORT allows manufacturers the benefit of accounting for tolerance stack up, and resolves alignment issues during product assembly. This saves costly rework of components and the expensive downtime associated with stripped or cross threaded fasteners. RIV-FLOAT®-SHORT also allows installation from the front side of the work piece, which improves assembly time by allowing the fasteners to be installed post paint, powder coat or other surface treatment.

RIV-FLOAT®-SHORT is being used in aircraft interiors to attach the structures of the galley, overhead bins, armrests and the lavatory.

    Supracor- Booth #311

An alternative to foam cushioning, seat cushions made from Stimulite® honeycomb provide long term sitting comfort in a low profile that is lightweight and gives passengers more living space. A flexible form of aerospace honeycomb that is fusion bonded without the need for adhesives, Stimulite relies on the proven optimum strength-to-weight attributes of structural honeycomb to deliver uniform load distribution at a fraction of the thickness of foam cushions. Perforations in the cell walls circulate air to prevent heat build-up while the “footprint” of the cells and their flexing action promote circulation.

For more than 20 years, Stimulite honeycomb has been providing long term sitting comfort to wheelchair users who can sit for up to 16 hours a day and are at risk for pressure sores. More recently, military jet pilots, including those of the F-18 Hornets, have relied on Stimulite cushions to ensure comfort on their long haul missions. Such high-performance applications demand a material that is robust and durable and Stimulite has delivered long-lasting comfort. Made in California from non-toxic thermoplastics that are completely recyclable, it meets all flammability requirements and is certified by Boeing who features Stimulite mattresses in the crew rest of the 787 Dreamliner and 747-8 aircraft. A finalist for this year’s Crystal Cabin Award for Passenger Comfort, Stimulite is setting new standards for aircraft seat comfort.

Available in any colour and a selection of grains E-Leather Cladding has the look and feel of leather without the weight penalty.

    Essex Industries - Booth #811

The Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) provides crewmembers with ocular, head and respiratory protection during emergency conditions in an aircraft at cabin altitudes.   Sixty minutes of protection is supplied to the wearer, as fifteen minutes of compressed aviator’s grade oxygen is released in the unit.  The PBE dons in only 15 seconds, with a unique design that eliminates the need for an oral/nasal mask so that crewmembers can communicate while wearing the unit.  The amber-tinted hood provides 270° of visibility and the elastic neck seal requires no adjustment.  This lightweight device takes very little stowage space and is currently used by 90% of the Commercial Airline Industry in the United States. The PBE holds FAA TSO-C116, TSO-C99 approvals as well as CAA, EASA, CAAC and ANAC approvals.

Essex Industries is a leading supplier to the Aerospace and Defense market, providing platform controls, aircraft components and liquid oxygen systems for life support and ground support systems.

    EADS Sogerma - Booth #412

EADS Sogerma will have its Equinox and Solstys business class seats on display.  Equinox was developed to return a higher yield in the business-class cabin while maintaining a fully flat seat. The seat offers a fully flat surface at 58 to 60 inch pitch, enabling 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 configurations on wide-body aircraft. The seats are angled to allow for the reduction in pitch. When moving to the bed position the window seat moves up level with the armrests and the passenger’s feet are placed into a void level with the back shell; when the aisle passenger set moves downwards, the passenger’s feet are placed into a void in the back shell thus enabling the fully flat bed.

The Solstys business class seat is arranged in staggered rows and also becomes a fully flat bed offering a private environment.  With a base of 21 inches, this chair also offers an integrated massage system, one-piece dining table and electrical outlet.
